“I am Eagle” is a program that features leaders of the Florida Justice Association and their take on why the Eagle program is important that is emailed to all the members of the Florida Justice Association.
The Florida Justice Association (FJA), formerly the Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers (AFTL), is dedicated to strengthening and upholding Florida’s civil justice system and protecting the rights of Florida’s citizens and consumers.
FJA believes that all Floridians benefit when deserving individuals have a fair chance to seek justice in our state’s courts and that Florida’s consumers are made safer when large corporations and industries are held to a high ethical standard and accept fair responsibility for their actions.
FJA works in the legislative, political and public arenas to ensure that Floridians know and understand the importance of their rights to justice and to make certain that these rights, which are at the very core of what it means to be American, are safeguarded and protected.
“A common virtue among civil trial lawyers is individual ambition.
The uncommon virtue is the trial lawyer who has the ambition to help others, their clients, and their fellow lawyers as well as the determination and drive to uphold and protect our justice system.
At 18 years old, I was introduced to the concept of esprit de corps when I joined the Marine Corps. Esprit de corps represents a feeling of pride, fellowship, a common loyalty and devotion shared by members of a particular group, and that group is more important than the individual.
Since leaving the Marines, I have greatly missed that sense of brotherhood—which is why I was incredibly pleased to find it in the FJA community – among a group of people who embody that same spirit.
To me, EAGLE is the physical manifestation of our devotion to the justice system, evidence of our enthusiasm, and an endowment that honors the past and protects the future.
For these reasons and many more, I am proud to be an FJA EAGLE member.”
